Associate Professor
Dr. Alex Kolker is a coastal scientist has worked in shorelines across the world - in Louisiana, in North Africa, and along the Atlantic Coast of the United States and Europe. Dr. Kolker serves as Associate Professor at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium. He has also recently established the Coastal Climates Institute- an independent research platform that uses science to find practical solutions to climate change and coastal risks. His research interests include sea level rise, coastal sustainability, air pollution and climate innovation. Dr. Kolker works broadly with governments, the private sector, non-profits and community groups. He has published extensively in the academic literature, penned opinion pieces for leading publications, and regularly speaks to the national and international media.
Dr. Kolker worked as a Fulbright Scholar and Specialist in Morocco, during which he collaborated with faculty at University Mohammed V in Rabat, and University Cadi Ayyad's Polydisciplinary Faculty in Safi. He served on Science Advisory Group for Louisiana's Governor's Climate Initiative Task Force, the Framework Development Team for Louisiana's 2017 Coastal Master Plan, and a National Academy of Sciences committee on the evolution of the Gulf of Mexico. Dr. Kolker was a founding board member for New Harmony High- a New Orleans charter school focused on coastal sustainability.
