Conclusions
In our review of 604 patients with cardiogenic shock undergoing
conventional cardiac surgery, we describe high rates of early morbidity
and mortality. However, despite this, 62% of patients survive to 5
years and most do not require heart failure readmission or advanced
heart failure surgical therapy during follow-up. These data are
therefore supportive of conventional cardiac surgery in appropriately
selected patients presenting in cardiogenic shock.
