Halal Guys and Bar Room in Midtown.
This allowed us to spatially see trends in New York City. Lower East side had more number of hashtags in places to eat, whereas Meatpacking District had more hashtags in rooftops and bars. A really striking observation was that Midtown South had a lot of BBQ restaurants that had high Instagram # and taxi drops.
Future Work: Our future work will revolve around taking away the limitations of our project. Starting with the first one, wherein the ground truth will be perceived. So, Yelp as well as Google provide graphs for restaurants visited. They give the percentage of restaurants filled as a percent of total in a graph form. If this data correlates with the Instagram # data, we will be able to prove that it really provides the ground truth. Thus, relating Google or yelp data will be of higher importance. It can also be applied to large number of different industries where trends are to be noticed. This allows us to further expand our research and work in the advanced classes.
Conclusion; The pulse of the city at night can surely be seen from this analysis. With people visiting a high number of restaurants in social spaces, it creates a more social dynamic for people. As we’ll see in the photographs, there is a form of social life being created right outside those restaurants. This life has been captured by some photographs taken in New York City.
